MILLAGE RENEWAL
The vote for the CAFA millage renewal is being held on May 2, 2023. This will replace the current millage which is due to expire 12-31-2023. The new millage would be for five years (1-1-2024 thru 12-31-2028) This is a renewal of 2.4 mills (currently 2.3557 due to the Headlee Rollback). For example, a household that has a taxable value of $150,000 would equate to approximately $354.00/yr or $29.50 /month. ($2.36 x 150 on each $1,000 on all property except where exempted by law would).
FREE SMOKE DETECTORS/CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
Installation of FREE Smoke Detectors/Carbon Monoxide Detectors available to locals in need! Go to the website at the "Click Here" below. If someone is in need and doesn't have access to a computer, please have them call the Fire Chief at 734-475-8755. The Fire Chief will reach out to the State of Michigan on their behalf and get the process going. Please read the web site thoroughly. Chelsea Fire does not have the detectors on site. An email needs to be sent to LARA-miprevention@michigan.gov to put in a request for a detector(s). CAFA will install but there is a questionnaire that needs to be answered by the homeowners as the detector is being installed. In your email to the State of Michigan to request a detector, please list that you reside within the Chelsea Area Fire Authority response area.
